Our family trips are more adventurous than anything the scouts/ym do. My daughter was an expert at rappelling at age 11.

She is a new beehive so she may end up being disappointed with lame YW activities. I haven't heard any complaints yet, and I doubt I will. Right now she just thrilled to be going to mutual with the older YW.

Wait ... I'm getting sucked into thinking this was a legitimate question. Never mind.

You're right Mike, the church is sexist.

All I'm asking is this: if YM are thought to benefit from an outdoor program, are YW thought to benefit as well?

It seems the answer is "no". And if you believe that answer, I would submit that the coming divorce between BSA and LDS is coming sooner than you think.

Wouldn't it be nice...

Has there ever been a church President more passionate about scouting than Monson?

I am hoping that the Church ditches scouting soon, before my son gets to Cub Scout age.

Please, please, please let me get what I want this time....

You can have your son not do scouting. You have that right.

Singing a Smith's song ain't gonna get it done. It's up to you.

I think at some level it might come down to this:

The church is interested in developing leaders among the YM (see scouting and missions).

The church is very much less interested in developing leaders about the YW.

This has an interesting effect. No YW is ever a disappointment in YW's programs or because she didn't go on a mission. YM are disappointments (broadly speaking) when they don't advance in scouting and don't go on missions.

It's a two-tiered church. I'm merely pointing this out as a hypothesis. And suggesting that women in the church represent untapped, unharnessed potential for leadership and progress.

What difference does it make?

True, but if Scouting is still part of the Church program, I dont want to discourage him from participating.

I would be just as happy if they Church eliminated Scouts and simply encouraged the youth to surf.
