Default Had some enlightening experiences in Denver

There were 16 trainees from 7 different states while I was in Denver.

I was the only one from Utah and the only Mormon in the group.

Over the span of 3 weeks I got to know some of those people very well. 2 of which have become very close friends.

I'm glad I was able to experience divergent points of view, all in the spirit of being open and respecting what others believe.

Lol...now I know some of you won't believe this, but I was very cordial and nice and loved sharing what I felt when I was asked. I never offered, but would be willing to share if someone approached me with a question about Mormons, or if I was given an opportunity to dispell a myth about Mormons.

One even approached me about the blacks and the priesthood, and I've gotta give a few of you some credit here for my reaction. Especially SEIQ, Mike, Lebowski, and HoyaCoug....I didn't dodge that this racist action was terrible and I genuinely felt bad about it. I was surprised that when I didn't dodge their concern and was open about how big of a mistake that was... just suddenly how more open that person came about wanting to learn more about our faith. Thanks for the insights guys.

Ironically the best friend I made out there was a 27 year old girl who is an Atheist. Her and I hit it off and she's one of the coolest people I've ever met.

I felt like this short time was an experience heavily laden with teaching moments for myself and opportunities to listen and respect.

Because of this, it's helped me to understand some of you on here a little bit better I think. And it has taught me a valuable lesson to respect others opinions and beliefs more than I had in the past.

It was a great experience.

Wait a minute - Rocky goes to a hotbed of liberal thought in Denver, and comes back kinder and gentler? Is this some sort of alternate universe we've stumbled into?

No, it's kind of like a tan you pick up on Hawaii: it wears off over time.

When I first skimmed this, I read the word as "trannies."

Kind of changes the meaning of the whole post.
