Default not finishing Bushman biography

I stopped reading during Nauvoo section. I got busy, and had other reasons to stop. But I think, deep down, part of my reason for stopping was that in an irrational way, I didn't want Joseph to die. I didn't want to experience it.

We're not always in the mood for tragedies, I suppose.

That's an interesting sentiment that I shared while reading the book.

Not to spoil it for you, but he does die in the end.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

As a nonmember who is a Ute fan (I didn't understand your connection to the site until I figured out you are a Ute fan), and critic of the church (you are a strange cat with your interest in the church), I don't think you understand the place of Joseph in in the mind of Mormons.

Learn how Joseph suffered, and you may be willing to forgive a man that was intent on defending his people. He overreached with the press. But what kind of man submits to arrest knowing he will be killed?

Is Hyrum a Ute fan?

If so, I apologize for his cretinous behavior.

That is where I am too. I just ran out of gas in reading that book. I am hoping to get it finished this summer, but I have some other books on my schedule that I will probably get to first.
