Tillman and Lynch development absolutely facinating
Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman's family are enraged that the military made up lies about how Lynch was wounded, and Tillman was killed. (Seemingly these lies touched the oval office, or offices beside the oval office.) The lies actually cast Lynch and Tillman as heros, in Paul H. Dunn story fashion.
This tells me the United States is surely on a higher moral plain than any other civilization in history. Propaganda crystallizing into myth has a tradition since the start of recorded history. Yet, here, as I heard Tillman's mother say on NPR this morning, making up lies about Tillman's death, even if laudatory lies, is regarded as disrespectful to his memory and his sacrifice. Our forebears would look on in wonderment. This is an occasion for patting ourselves on the back.

Of course, all we have in recorded history are the laudatory myths that have made their way into the record. Who knows what Penelope really thought about the big O's long way home? Perhaps all this really significes about our society is better media and more infomration.

With Tillman, the story went from him being killed in a raid of somekind (heroic), to friendly fire, to now his mother saying that the guy that shot him "just wanted to shoot someone" or at least engage in fire of some kind.
The friendly fire story didn't come out for quite some time, and the story was that Pat was killed being heroic. I don't know about the other girl..if anyone can fill in the blanks, go for it.

Tillman was originally given a bogus silver star.

No, you're confusing the effect of the enlightenment (what we were talking about) with the cause of the enlightenment (what you are now talking about).
