Default Certain Hymns Not Allowed in the Temple?

We were having a lesson on symbols and the Temple and the teacher brought up the symbolic nature of hims and then proceeded to explain the meaning behind "High on a Mountain Top."

As an after thought, he said, "Did you know that some of the hymns in our hymn book are not allowed to be sung in the temple?"

He didn't list any, and obviously the Battle Hymn Of the Republic etc...wouldn't be allowed, but he told a story about a young woman who had prepared a song to be sung at a meeting in the temple and was told that she could not sing it because it was not "on the list."

I was not aware such a list existed. Anyone else have experience with this?

There are various meetings held in temples. Staff meetings. Shift meetings for temple workers. The brethren meet in the Salt Lake Temple. There are various leadership meetings that have been held in the Salt Lake Temple for bishops and stake presidencies.

I don't think I have ever been to a session where they played hymns while I waited.

In Vegas, it's commonplace.

And there are special meetings where it's performed as well. Special assemblies where our callings and elections are made sure. I guess you missed yours. Some day I'll let you know how it went.

That reminds me of the old Steve Martin routine where he talks about when the earth was destroyed. When the audience seems confused he says, "What, you don't remember that? The earth was completely destroyed? And we all came to this planet on the giant space ark? And the government decided not to tell the stupider people because they thought.......Uh, okay. We're having some fun tonight."

When I lived in Utah, specifically Provo, it happened a lot.
