Default Funny thing about Obama...

He has this magic floating accent. When he's announcing his candidacy in Chicago, he's all midwestern American. When he's speaking in Washington, he pulls out the Harvard graduate. When he's marching in Selma, he's all Southern, dropping half his consonants.

I can't decide what to make of it.

He's whoever the populace wants him to be. In other words, he's no different than any politician.

Right. I just can't remember anybody else actually reinventing their accent at each whistlestop before? Or maybe they all have and I just never noticed.

In other news, today's the first time Bill and Hillary have campaigned together. I wonder if they managed to act like they like each other.

I guess one has to do what one has to do to get elected, eh?

I'll leave it to you to decide if I'm talking about Obama's accent or Mrs. Clinton.

Why so cynical? I absolutely loved those long, adoring gazes he would give the steely-eyed Hillary during every State of the Union addresses.

At least that was better than the slurpy kiss Gore planted on his wife at the convention.

You mean like GWB speaking spanish? Or dressing as a cowboy when he goes to Texas? All politicians do this. How many of them really care about ethanol? Now ask yourself how many of them can't wait to go to the Iowa state fair and talk about nothing BUT ethanol.

Ethanol is such a joke. Invented and promoted solely to help the corn states. No real environmental benefit. The whole notion is as corny as Kansas in August.

I agree with Myboynoah. The cynicism and negativity that this thread displays toward politicians is pretty bad. It's almost as if you guys think Senators Clinton and Obama routinely change their behavior and message in order to get the most favorable reception from the target audience.

I'm as cynical as anybody, but I don't think a politician would do that.

Why such cynicism? From what I understand, Brazil uses mostly ethanol (but from sugar cane). Why not develop the science? I read a while back that great strides are being made in efficiency, techniques, etc. Apparently prairie grass is a great source for ethanol and many farms are starting to grow it.
