Default This surprises me re: Obama

I hadn't heard that he trails Clinton in polls of black voters. He trails big. I know it's early and this stuff doesn't much matter but it still surprised me. Lots of interesting stats in this link.

Although he's very liberal, his tone is different. Doesn't seem to play the blacks as victims card. Talks about personal responsibility and stuff. This goes against everything many in the black community have been taught for 40 years, and many don't want to hear it.

Sorry that I do not have the links, but I have read two other news articles that say the same thing your article does: that Obama does not have the black vote.

He has also captured the elusive Oklahoma librarian vote.

I think I'm guilty of cheering for Obama just because he's black. That and the whole Osama vs. Obama headlines we would see in newspapers if he won.

The poll discussed by CNN is almost three months old.

In this week's polls, Obama has taken over the lead among registered black voters.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...701030_pf.html

Quote:
Clinton's and Obama's support among white voters changed little since December, but the changes among black Democrats were dramatic. In December and January Post-ABC News polls, Clinton led Obama among African Americans by 60 percent to 20 percent. In the new poll, Obama held a narrow advantage among blacks, 44 percent to 33 percent. The shift came despite four in five blacks having a favorable impression of the New York senator.

That is interesting. It's apparently just not enough to be black in order to get the black support.

Venkman makes a good point about Obama believing in personal accountability. Of course, in today's America, no ethnic group as a whole seems to believe in it anymore.

why should it surprise you that a kid with an absent African father (not an African-American father), who bascially grew up among whites, has a weird Muslim name, and doesn't have any particular affiliation or collaboration with traditional black power bases is not particularly appealing to African-Americans?

A lot of times its whites that like to put labels on people. Is Tiger Woods black? He doesnt consider himself black.
