Remember how during the boom years of the Clinton administration the annual budget deficit magically vanished for a time, in fact tranforming to a budget surplus? Then as the economy went south again the deficits returned, despite tax increases. We are seeing this cycle re-emerge. Statistics released today note that nationwide state tax revenues are unexpectedly up 25% all due to the improved national economy (not due to tax rate increases). (My source is that font of libertarianism, NPR.) The smart states will split the surplus between increased public education spending and tax cuts. Leave it in the hands of the pols and they'll turn it into pork sure as day follows night, and hasten onset of the downturn. They care about pleasing constituents in the short term. That's all. The really stupid states will spend it on new pro sports facilities, heaping largess on the class of the stupid rich.

No one jokes about "Reaganomics" anymore. I wonder why?

you think there was boom when clinton was president. If they were to pass the fair tax amendment the economy would triple in the first 10 years

Reagan definitely knew what he was doing. He was the last great president and unless someone comes along who emmulates his policies, we won't have another for a long time.
