Anae - the enigma
On the one hand you can make the argument that he is an excellent OC. On the other hand, you can legitimately argue that he is really underperforming. Or put another way, he takes the boys to a certain level, but is perplexing in his lack of flexibility.
He can have the guys execute at a high level, but he can't install plays like draws and screens? Why is he so predictable out of his sets? How far can execution take us? This goes for both sides of the ball. Both Anae and Bronco would make horrible poker players. You know exactly what hand they have based on how they are playing their hand. They are like the kid who beats you in the face-card game "WAR" simply because they have the personality to play it for hours and hours, despite it being boring as hell. Clearly the challenges facing the defense are greater than those facing the offense. And Anae must be given *some* credit for that. But you look at BYU from the Lavell era on, that has always been the case. I'd like to see some improvement from the Anae braintrust. Because it is doubtful the defense will ever be extraordinary. |

There's nothing enigmatic about him. He can put together a fantastic offensive system that performs at a very high level, but is suspect under pressure. We will rarely lose a game we shouldn't, but we will rarely win a game we shouldn't.

Defense played well enough to win. Running game good enough to win. You don't win with that many turnovers.
