re-watched UNI game last night...
I was watching the first quarter of the UNI game last night, and noticed something on the long QB sneak:
I believe it was Matt Ah You's assignment to fill the gap the QB went through. On the play, when he moved to fill the gap, he was nailed with a block-in-the-back by a UNI O-lineman (may have been a TE). The QB accelerated through the gap, now clear of BYU defenders. Matt Bauman, who had blitzed the gap on the other side, released from his blocker and attempted a diving tackle on the QB...and promptly ran into Scott Johnson, who had been running toward the LOS after a guy he was covering, and was unable to change direction quickly enough to make the tackle. Scottie MAY have been able to make a diving shoe-string tackle, had Bauman not hit him just as he was starting his dive, or he may not have been. At any rate, the run was a confluence of at least three mistakes: 1. Ah You not filling the gap quickly enough (the block in the back didn't help, but it wasn't easy to see). 2. Bauman not taking the best angle to cut down the QB. 3. Johnson failing to change direction quickly enough to make the tackle.
