MWC Seeks to add Boise
Yes, the MWC wants to go to Boise. Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson made the announcement today. He wants in the Humanitarian Bowl. It would be the 5th bowl game for the 9-team MWC. Negotiations are in place to back-up the ACC in 2008-09, and possibly take over a spot permanently starting in 2010. http://www.sltrib.com/sports/ci_9960690 http://www.sltrib.com/collegesports/ci_9967904 http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,700245203,00.html http://blogs.sltrib.com/byu/2008/07/...l-it-could.htm

So let me get this straight.....a BCS conference is saying, "No thanks to your lame Boise bowl game."
So we swoop in and say, "Heck yeah! We'll take it!" The MWC is awesome.

Why not? It isn't like we are sending our champ there. More bowls = more money. BCS conferences are having a hard time having enough bowl eligible teams to fill the spot so the MWC steps in.

I am not sure BYU could sell 15-20K tickets for a game played in Boise in December. It just seems like an unappealing matchup to me.....a low-tier MWC team against a low-tier WAC team. You could literally be watching New Mexico play San Jose State.

I usually watch BYU's bowl, SC's bowl, the Rose Bowl, and the NC game. I wind up watching others here and there, but those 4 are the ones for which I always make time to watch.

For a conference whose marquee, champion bowl game is held before Christmas and in a stadium whose capacity is less than 37,000, aspiring to add the ten-degree Boise bowl shouldn't come as much of a surprise. With the exception of Utah, Colorado State and BYU, any time a MWC team is invited to a bowl game, records are often set for low attendance. Few people have interest in Wyoming football, including those who reside in Laramie.

Suppose BYU, Utah, Colorado State, and any of the other MWC teams all finish in a 4-way first place tie, and there are 3 bowl bids available. There is no question which 3 schools would receive the invites.
