Tiger has completely destroyed the will of all semi-sane players near his age. Norman and Mediate are too old to care too much about Tiger -- they fought their demons when Tiger was still a kid. Duval is in his own world anyway. Villegas is so young and new that he hasn't been beaten down for years and years by Tiger. K.J. Choi flies under the radar because he can't speak English, and he's a really calm guy anyway. And Furyk has an iron will.

The other guys -- Sergio, Phil, Ernie, Monty, etc. -- look like Ute fans after Hall to Collie, Beck to Harline, Doman to Pittman ... They have been so beaten down by Tiger and face so much media scrutiny about it that they're in a constant state of shock.

Personally, I think it is evidence that the terrorists are winning.

On that note, I am looking for Aranxcha Sanchez Vicario and Jim Courier to do well at the upcoming US Open at Flushing Meadows.

Duval contending would be a compelling story in an Open that, without Tiger, desperately needs one.

I guess Norman might be as well, but his story isn't as feel-good. Plus, I don't like him as much.

Agreed.

If the top guys are going to miss the cut, then having Norman, Duval, and Mediate at the top makes for a good story. People still won't watch, but there would be a little more interest.

Duval played better because he got fat again.
