Default Nearly one in five in Utah on anti-depressants.

I know this is an old dead horse and this article is a few days old so my apologies if it was already linked.

I don't know for sure what this says about LDS culture, but it seems undeniable that it says something.

It says that Utahns seek help.

I saw a Time magazine chart that ranked states by happiness. Utah was last. I am curious about it.

One in five? That number sounds insanely high. Is this like that "1 in 10 people are gay" statistic that was debunked a few years ago?

LDS folks don't typically self-medicate with alcohol. Many non-LDS take the edge off with the occasional adult beverage. Mormons are left with nothing but Prozac.

I think another component is the guilt and feelings of inadequacy heaped on members of the Church. People constantly striving for perfection and falling short. When I was still active I saw a therapist who told me a lot of my anxiety was a result of constantly trying to live up to the demanding expectations of my religion. At the time I blew off his counsel. Now, I think he was on to something.

I think another factor might be that LDS people can feel that if they're not constantly ecstatic, there's something wrong with them.

I aim for Telestial, and have no anxiety on the matter. That kingdom has a big tent.

The only troubling thing about the Telestial Kingdom is that its inhabitants would range from Dahmer and Hitler to some LDS kid who fornicated a time or two in high school and never confessed to his bishop.

I would like to see an update for section 89. All it would say is "Exercise, eat right and don't overindulge in anything that will harm you".

Maybe it's the non-Mormons who are sick of living next to the depression-free Mormons?

See if people exercised more they'd need Prozac less.
