The problem with this poll is that it couches half the positions relative to the NRA and the other half as independent. Wouldn't that encourage people to vote for some things based on their opinion of the NRA?

I voted for status quo, but I'm not sure what the NRA advocates that is different from the status quo. Can anyone provide that info (with support)?

lots of thing. that the 2nd amendment is an individual right (see suit in DC). More states allowing concealed carry. Castle laws.

I voted I would ban some guns available now and am pretty close but not quite to the stance that all guns save for hunting should be banned.

I'm NRA but I also used to be a member of Gun Owners of America, of which many members consider the NRA a bunch of sellouts. I'm not as hardcore as that anymore, but the second ammendment is pretty much a litmus test for me.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

My reading of this poorly drafted amendment is that a person's right to bear arms is a part of his/her participation in a well regulated militia. I think that the NRA and other similar groups take the phrase "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" out of its context and ignore that it is qualified by language regarding the necessity of a militia. However, I think that the right to keep and bear arms for hunting and defense of one's home/self has been sustained through implementation sufficient that I would only ban many weapons that are currently legal. However, I border on banning any weapon that has no hunting value.

Who was the militia at the time the amendment was written? Ordinary citizens.

It's very clear what the amendment means, and you are wrong.
