Big Love pilot episode
any thoughts?
I was thinking it must be tough to manage 3 families. Also it struck me, in a dinner scene in the backyard, how foreign it must be to the average American, to have such a large family. Yet there was something kind of endearing about it--at least I think that was something that the creators were trying to get across. It wasn't very action-packed. The story didn't arc very far. Just an introduction. Not sure yet if it's going to be a winner. |

btw, if you are of the notion to watch a "public-domain" version of the pilot, I'm sure it is possible. maybe ewth8tr could point the way....

I found it very interesting....
The little disclaimer at the end didn't do enough to distance it from the LDS church though. I saw the SLC Temple 4 different times. Heard the words "Relief Society", Bishops, Cummorah, YW advisor and missionary. If you didn't know you would just assume. Thought it was funny the chick from Napoleon Dynamite is in it. I found the Erectile Dysfunction part of the show to be pretty funny. Managing the finances would be the toughest of all. I think they portrayed the "compound" polygamists pretty accuratly. I like how they have 3 different stereotypes as the wives. The first wife is extremely educated and a teacher. 2nd wife was spoiled and has spending problems. 3rd wife is young, insecure and jockying for position. Overall the first episode was a little "blah", but you can see some storylines already. First one up.... Polygamist prophet is poisoning the old man with the "special" drink that the prophet wants him to drink. (That was a "tell" though.) Should be interesting. Too much nude Bill Paxon though.

Silly me....
I like the slightly chunky younger one. She will be the first to lose her clothing.

I thought it was interesting, don't know if I'll be a regular viewer or not. I actually thought that despite the location they did a good job of seperating themselves from the Mormons. There were a few disparaging remarks made about those mormons, so hopefully people will see the distinction.
I saw a "making of" feature last night after it was over and all of the actors talked about the difficulty in portraying characters and roles that they couldn't really understand.
