Staying motivated during the winter months...
So i bought a fluid trainer and it's sweet.. I guess... I got on it and rode for I don't know how long and to none of your surprise it sucked. it was boring, i was hot and sweaty with no breeze to cool me down, the scenery didn't change, and i didn't realize my cyclometer only measures cadence when my front wheel isn't turning! ha ha! that said, i was hoping to measure miles and speed, etc. to help motivate me.
Now that's out the window, I've purchased to DVD's to hopefully add something to the workouts. I bought a 3 carmichael trainright dvd's and one came with the trainer. hopefully that will be enough variety to last me through the winter... oh and I bought the magnificent 7... that's 15 hours or something like that. Why are even cycling DVD's expensive? the carmichaels were $30 + a piece and magnificent 7 was about a 100 bones! crazy... Anyway, I think this will help me, but what are somethings you guys do to motivate yourselves, measure success, etc. Thanks!

My motivation is the fear of being left behind this coming summer. My goal every winter is to stay in good enough shape that on that first group ride next spring I'm the fastest guy out there. It doesn't always happen but I'm not the slowest guy either. Also I know for every hour I'm working out I know Arch is doing two and that keeps me going. Time wise an hour indoors feels like two outside so put on your IPod and get a magazine you can sweat on and work away. I sometimes will drift away to my rides this past summer and imagine I'm on riding them but training indoors can be brutal.

BTW, thanks to the crash caused by Viking since mid September, I've only logged 940 miles. So I've gone way down but I'm averaging about a 100 per week. Does anybody wish to ride Saturday in Utah prior to the Utah game?

That, followed by a good Cougs win would make for a very good day. |

I was going back to check on Piney whom you had abandoned. Unlike you, I care about my friends and crew. you simply laughed at your fallen comrade and ate a tasty lunch instead working your arse off in his honor. Talk about not winning one for the Gipper.

Well we don't have to go hard, or you could do part and we could meet up at the end.

Our chance for a fast 100 went up the road after the crash. With Sam long gone, you in the hospital and Pride with a broken bike a tasty lunch was the right thing to do. We rode hard after lunch and nobody passed us so it was time well spent.
