The Beck Rebuttal Petition:
Why did it include the anti-war stuff?
For the most part, the petition was clever, but when they took shot at that aspect, I wondered if they had contemplated the ramifications of their petition. Any ideas? Quote:

I thought that was really strange as well. I'd like to go on record as stating that I don't believe that anyone is actually filled with "unutterable sadness" about any BoM story. Talk about hyperbole.

Only the feminazis in the LDS Church are upset about Sister Beck's inspired talk. Feminazis are hardcore liberal leftists and we all know how the libs feel about the war.

I thought you were kidding or maybe attempting satire so I checked out the petition. Wow, it really does say that. |

I missed the last GC and am just learning about sister Beck's controversial talk from some of your posts, so I don't really feel like I can speak about that, but this war statement is one of the few parts that makes a lot of sense. As LDS I think we are too prone to interpret the story of the Strippling Warriors as a glorification of valor and honor rather than a story of bloody and tragic necessity. Just as the mothers of those warriors saw it as their responsibility to gird up their sons spiritually, I think these current mothers think they are doing the same thing, and in this way being true to the ideas that sister Beck was talking about.
I have taken these posts as an opportunity to read Sister Beck's talk (it looks like a tiny talk in print) and also to review President Hinckley's war talk from 2003. The BOM was written for our day, which seems obvious when we see what it says about war. War and our attitudes about it are the primary issues of our generation, and will probably continue to be until Christ returns. I'm happy to see brave LDS women take the opportunity to proclaim peace. I think Christ would do the same. |

Am I the only one who thought the rebuttal read like a takeoff of a "What Oprah Knows For Sure" column? I couldn't get passed that. Sue me.
