Default I am not a very good member of the church...

I don't really care about Conference. I look at it as a weekend off.

My wife works. She doesn't want to stay at home. More power to her.

My faith in the gospel is strong. I am to the point though where I just don't really care anymore.

Our church is too black/white. You are either in or out. If am on the verge of out for now...

To me, the church is like politics and real estate - it's all local.

The things I care about most are my family and my calling.

beyond that, well, not so much..

What do you mean by "borderlander"?

I am just tired of it all.

Because I don't agree with group "A" I don't follow the Lord's council.
Because I agree with group "A" I am narrow minded.

This isn't just the internet...this is church in general.

Look...I didn't watch conference. I have it on DVR and I will get to it at some point.

The shit I am tired of is Fast Sunday next week. We are going to get all the folks who got "something" out of Conference get up and "testify" why this backs what they are doing.

Then...you are going to get the folks that are offended by it and the whole damn circle starts all over again.

I am just tired of it.

Ignore them, you have the right to do so. It can be hard not to let some members make you feel uncomfortable, but you have to ignore them.

I have often said and firmly believe, if the Celestial Kingdom is full of the members who think they are going there and think their calling is to brow beat the rest of us into getting there, I am not interested in going there.

"Borderlander" is from a column in Sunstone that tries to address the issues of those who aren't orthodox or who don't otherwise fit in.

I don't think this makes you a bad member of the church. It's a little unusual, I suppose, for a person of strong faith to not care about Conference since much of our faith is embodied in what it represents, but why would that make you a bad member?

(Rhetorical questions) Do you magnify your calling in the priesthood? Do you try to raise your children in righteousness? Do you offer service to those in need? Do you believe in Jesus Christ and strive to follow his example?

These are the types of things that good membership is made of, not whether you enjoy going to some meeting. I will confess, though, I'm confused by the hostility you seem to have for those who do.

I agree with Ballard that active Mormon doesn't make any sense. As a borderlander, perhaps focus upon being "observant" or "practicing".

Being an adult member often means being isolated without social soulmates. Talks like Beck's or Callister's make one feel more isolated.

Heaven forbid anything anyone says could make someone feel bad.

If we go around on tippy toes trying not to offend anyone, we will end up not saying anything at all.

So you believe talks should drive persons away from the Church?

By your tenor of speech, it appears you will accomplish your goal frequently and well. JL would gladly proclaim at the end of his days, "I drove away 10,000 souls from the Lord's kingdom. We didn't need them anyway."
