Heh.
Sexuality is a thought process, a way of feeling about one's self. It's about fitness, intimate feelings, etc. It's much more than the mechanics, which people fumble around about.

So teach them about health, body image, fitness, nutrition, health interchange with the opposite sex, let them enjoy kissing etc....

If you really have to ask that question, you miss the point of sexuality.

Let them masturbate.

I really do wonder if this might resolve some issues.

In our culture we can't recommend that, but without our hangups on that, some evidence suggests this is helpful for girls.

"some evidence" as in an overwhelming majority of experts agree...

I'm not so sure we can't recommend that in our culture. It can be fraught with its own problems, but most guys are doing it anyway, and I really think most girls would take a pretty healthy approach to it. Even if we don't come out and suggest it, I'm not sure why we have to come down so hard against it.

I'm not sure how much of this is actually appropriate for a religious class, but for what it's worth, healthy non-sexual interchange with the opposite sex is already QUITE encouraged. Have you listened to a CES fireside in the last 20 years?

Because masturbation quells sexual desires? Well, for about 5 minutes, i guess.

For the record, I'm not a masturbation nazi, and I don't necessarily agree 100% with the church's standpoint on self-abuse. (I do love that phrase, though!) That said, I don't think green-lighting masturbation would help the youth adhere more tightly to the law of chastity.

Talk about your ironies.

I am also pretty sure this is not the direction the SP wanted the discussion to go in the RS meeting.

I thought I was a delicate as I could be. Yes I understated the evidence for our Mormon audience.

It's a difficult tension given the convention of abstinence prior to the nuptials, without resorting to killing healthy, natural desires in either gender.
