you don't really think that's the reason. Many, many women would watch. And some men, too.

It just strikes me as an unnessary separation for that one meeting. And I don't think that "because no one would watch" would be the stated reason. Is there a stated reason?

Tradition.

And yes I believe many men would have better things to do. But the tradition of attending keeps it that way. The tradition of separating the priesthood from the rest of the Church. Practically men are lazier in regards to church activity than many women. So they maintain the tradition to keep the men involved. Whether's wise is not the answer but the tradition is being maintained. It will change some day.

church in jammies. doesn't get better than that.
Yesterday during PH opening exercises, there was a little disagreement about what time conference started this weekend. For some reason people thought it was going to be different this year than it has for the past 50 years.

I leaned over to the guy next to me, an older feller, and whispered "9:00, 10:00. Who cares as long as I get to watch it in my pajamas."

He looked sternly back at me and whispered, "Nice Try. I don't think so."

I felt bad for the poor guy. He doesn't realized what he's missing out on.

And speaking of that, why don't they televise the Priesthood session? Why do they require you to go to church for that and no other sessions?
The deep mysteries that are discussed would disturb your fragile sensitivities.

It reminds me of a time in my college ward when gender issues seemed to be the topic-du-jour. There was a Sac Mtg dedicated to this issue (looking back on things now, probably offered as a sort of peace offering) in which a few of the more outspoken women spoke on the role of women in the church. (The one quote I remember from the meeting was "I've decided to be patient with the Church. They'll catch up.") At the end of SS, a few of the women remained seated at the back, as Priesthood was held in the same room. They sat through the whole block.

They never did it again.

You just ain't missin much. "Stop looking at porn and beating up your families." There ya go.

I dont even pretend to watch conference on Saturdays.

I will pretend to watch it on Sundays, though.

I bring my latop and aircard to church a lot now, so I imagine Priesthood will be a breeze this weekend.

They have conference on Saturdays? When did they start that tradition. Next thing you'll tell, is that they have a special secret Priesthood session.

Thanks to Tivo, I can fast forward and watch only the white male talks.

Unfortunately, that means I watch all but 3 or 4 talks.

I don't get BYUTV, and I was in San Diego this weekend, so I had to go watch at the stake center. They had great refreshments afterwards, so it made up for having to roadtrip down there in church clothes.

Also of note. Monson had on a pretty boss suit. *very* light gray. Maybe more of an off white gray suit. very nice.

Of course I can see the content myself within a few days when they publish it. I do typically read it later. That's beside the point. So long as they try to perpetuate the separate but equal doctrine, it would at least be nice to attempt some more equality in the separate bits. For example, why not have the priesthood and RS sessions together on one weekend, instead of just putting the RS session (only yearly, mind you, since otherwise they put the YW session, which is another inequity. . .) on a separate week. And if they televise one, why not the other?

I know I won't get much sympathy for my view here, but my point is these kinds of distinctions send a message, and it matters.
