'Cause all those evangelical-types are the same. Like black people.

You're right. "Creationism" can mean either belief in the Bible story of creation as myth, or belief in the Bible story of the creation as fact. You've caught us, jumping to conclusions like that.

I'm looking for evidence that Palin wants creationism taught as science in school. Lebowski's done his usual classy job of stereotyping, but I haven't seen any real evidence. I'll be happy to be proven wrong ... I'm just asking.

What else would she be suggesting?

The whole controversy arrives from a gubernatorial debate in October, 2006. The subject was not creation in the schools in general, the subject was creation introduced as a scientific alternative to the theory of evolution:

Quote:
MODERATOR: "Should creation be taught as science in the schools?"

• HALCRO: "I think anything that is religious-based in, in concept, you know, really should, needs to be taught in the proper channel -- philosophy, sociology. I don't think it should be taught as a science."

• KNOWLES: "... The answer is no. The reason why is we don't want politics in our science. We actually want more science in our politics. We don't want to just teach all things because it may be politically correct. We want to teach the best science there is, and there is overwhelming evidence, there's almost incontrovertible evidence that evolution is the science that, that we know. And that's what we should always teach, to never compromise on the principles just because it's politically popular."

• PALIN: "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. "Healthy debate is so important and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both. And you know, I say this too as the daughter of a science teacher. Growing up with being so privileged and blessed to be given a lot of information on, on both sides of the subject -- creationism and evolution. It's been a healthy foundation for me. But don't be afraid of information and let kids debate both sides."

Nobody intelligent can believe that stuff, so it makes more sense to me that she's just a great actress. Our politicians don't believe the shit they spew, but they want us to believe they believe it.

Isn't there an unfounded assumption there, sir?

That's why I was asking the question.

It certainly sounds like she wants it taught in the classroom, but her answer is pretty vague as a matter of policy. Do we have any evidence she governed this way?

We studied the bible a bit in my world lit class senior year. That was at a public high school in rural California.
