Can you tell us more about why you say Heaps probably will sign with BYU?

That's how I view it as well.

After the 03' Jackson Brown 4th String Walk-On debacle against Utah and Notre Dame you can NEVER have enough depth at any position, especially QB and The O-line.

It's interesting how three years of unprecedented luck in the QB injury department can cause a fanbase to forget past lessons...

Course BYU still has 4 other QB's they're looking at to still sign for their 09' class:

Josh Nunes: An article yesterday by Brandon Huffman on scout.com had Nunes bringing his list down to 8, and that included BYU. I don't expect him to sign. He said in the next little while he'll announce which 5 he'll be taking his official recruiting trips to.

Jamie Jensen: QB out of Cali....has said publicly he will commit on the spot if offered by BYU.

Taysom Hill: Is picking up more and more offers all the time.

Jeff Manning: My guess is the second Utah offers him...if they do, he'll commit to the Utes.

If I had to guess which QB of the 4 we'll sign..I'd guess Jamie Jensen.

I actually don't know much about the kid (heck, if I can't get BYU games, how should I ever see a USU game?) but the reaction over on Ute fans seems to indicate this is a fairly big get for the Y. Would they really be up-in-arms over a recruiter contacting some no-name in the mission field and getting him to change his mind?

His size is an issue, but one that can be overcome if he has other skills, IMO.

I'm curious ... does this open the box for other colleges to contact and recruit actively serving missionaries? Can UCLA or ASU or whoever call up a mission president and get permission to recruit?

Interesting story ...
I don't know how big of a get he is, but the zoots are freaking because it's another kid who has decided to go to BYU and they believe that Mendenhall is poaching. He may or may not be poaching, but it is amusing to watch the ruckus. If BYU hadn't made the conference it's bitch under Mendenhall, the zoots wouldn't care.

For me it is equally entertaining watching some of the more zealous zoobs justify Mendenhall communicating with missionaries. No need to justify it, as it really isn't against the rules. It's more of a pussy way to recruit - let the kids concentrate on the mission rather than think about football - but Mendenhall has actually made it necessary to do this, as he's said from the beginning that he wants kids that are up to all the standards of BYU to be on his team. That limits his recruiting pool significantly.

As for Nelson, I wish him well.
