We've all had our stupid bragging comments, when in reality, if we were hot stuff, we'd be in Europe for a pro team. I hear you climb well, which won't be needed at ULCER, but more people around to shelter the old guys, the better. I have so many bad rides, bad in terms of performance I cannot count them. Even a bad day on the road is better than a good day in the office.

I don't climb well. I am horrible at it. I'm not built like a climber. I just work really hard at it. I do a lot better on a flat stretch of road where I can hammer. Anything I say about my own abilities is said tongue in cheek and with the firm knowledge that I am at best, average. I know I am not the fastest. But I can be the hardest worker. |

Ride with a pro one day, and it tells you, it would never had been in the cards. They have different engines, mine is a beat up VW Bug from the sixties, theirs are brand new Enzo Ferrari engines. No comparison.

I don't need an engine. I have a tow rope.

1. I'm big for a cyclist 6' 2 1/2" 198 lbs and because of that 2. I displace a lot of wind for those behind me 3. I hold a very straight line at a very constant speed 4. If I have anything left in my legs I will take my turn 5. I struggle going up but I'm doing better this year 6. If I break 2 hours for 40 miles by myself I'm riding well 7. I love to ride. It looks like I may be doing this ride Saturday so I will have a little better clue on how well I will do in Provo. http://www.ratpod.org/info.php |

You post a 133 hilly century and you want us to have sympathy as to your abilities?
Geeze, now you're scaring the crap out of us. I'm getting ready for a tri in two weeks and no way will have enough miles to be good for ULCER but I will still work.

I thought I was doing well when I did 10 miles at 20mph. On the flats.
If I did 40miles at 20mph solo, I would be ecstatic. |

The only reason I'm even considering doing this is because one of my riding buddies leaves on a mission to Uganda July 9 and he asked me to go with him. I hope the Perpetuem keeps me going.
