I agree.

I submit the introductory phrase is the introductory justification for continuing to allow citizens to carry weaponry at large but not the limiting reason.

The justification given by Orange Ute is the flavor of the month for gun haters but it makes no sense. The militia was the citation of one of the reasons citizens should be allowed to own weaponry unimpaired.

How can citizens form a militia, if they have no weapons?

They cannot.

Centralized governmental types want total security and total control.

then why the phrase "well regulated militia"? IMO, you are wrong. The court's have left interpretation largely to legislation and regulation and have not addressed it. I can just as easily argue that the introductory phrase is a limiting phrase as you can that it is merely introductory. The fact is though, that self-defense and hunting rights have trumped my own interpretation, and I am fine with that.

My home and children are safer without a gun as long as we have a curious, independent and frequently defiant little boy living under its roof.

Safes and quick-access safes are the only way to go.

Too often people rely on other methods like 1) under the pillow 2) in the nightstand 3) hidden in the closet 4) under the mattress 5) in the super-duper secret hiding place 6) in the locked cabinet, with available key

You need a combination safe.

My wife visited her mother over the weekend. When she came home she handed me an old .38 pistol. She said she found it in her mother's kitchen cupboard. Another little easter egg left by my deceased father-in-law.

He was undoing all the safety locks in our home before he was 2. At 6, I wouldn't put cracking the safe passed him. However, if an intruder enters your home with a gun, is a gun locked up in a combination safe going to be much good to you?

You can get a nice gunsafe for about 900 bucks. They are wonderful to keep children away and to protect guns against fires.
