Be like me and you don't have to worry about it:

My complete lack of empathy for others will allow me to never have to be a Bishop. That and the fact that I hate everyone.

You are perilously close to being called to be a Mission President in a troubled mission with that attitude! They'll send you in to clean things up.

I'd rather be Scout Master.

No, I think I'm safe from that kind of calling. A friend of mine has already been called as a Mission President. He and his wife and 7 or their 8 kids will head out in June. Isn't there some sort of rule that says only one person at a time from the same high school class will get that calling?

One good way to avoid being a bishop is to piss off the Relief Society on both the ward and stake level.

This is a good thing, because if you are called despite the RS hating you, you will have almost no counseling sessions to do.

Assistant Scout Master. That's the spot I'm gunning for (assuming the leadership ever trusts me with impressionable minds). All camping and no real responsibility - at least that's how it was when I was growing up.

Another good way to avoid it is to try and campaign for the position about a year before the current bishop's time is up. Do a little fundraising event--maybe a ward potluck at $25 a pop. Then pass out flyers and make some signs. Use fast and testimony meeting as an opportunity to sell the congregation on your platform.

If all that is too much work for you then forget it and just answer "F--- yeah," when the stake secretary calls you and asks if you can meet with the stake president.
