Looking for work in Utah
I see that several other boards help alumni out quite a bit in regards to finding employment, USC for example. Well, now I am soliciting the help of any of you guys out there in Utah who know of any contacts in the SLC or Utah Co. areas in construction.
I graduated from BYU last Spring of '04 and worked for a government contractor for 6 months in DC before taking a job with Lennar Corporation as a superintendent. I have been working with Lennar for 7 months now. I know my experience is limited and my studies (English major) aren't particularly useful in this field of work but I work hard and learn quickly. I am currently building 7 homes and have built 2 model homes for a community and am in the process of building the third. I just need to get out of Virginia. I have been vacationing here in Utah for the past week and have decided that this where I need to be. I doubt that the money in Utah will be comparable to the DC/No. Virginia market but neither is the cost of living. Or the social life for that matter. Utah is the land of milk and honey compared with the singles action in Virginia. If anyone knows anyone here that could give me a name or a contact here in the area I would much appreciate it. I know it's difficult to vouch or refer someone you don't know, which is why all I'm really asking for is just a name or company you may know of who is looking to hire.

Why do you hate Virginia so much?

I'd rather commute in LA than have to commute north on I-95. The HOV lanes iare absolutely stupid and a death trap waiting to happen. Cost of living and housing have grown exponentially to California-like prices. I can't imagine renting my entire life. The attitudes and styles are distinctly different than what I am accustomed to in the West. My ward is struggling for active priesthood. Until two weeks ago I held four callings: Ward Clerk, Ward Employment Specialist, Primary Worker(8 year olds), and Cubmaster. I was just released from the Primary and Cubmaster position. I know that all seems negative but I do like Virginia. DC is one of a kind. I love the history. The state is beautiful. Although when I firt relocated I was constantly lost without a mountain range on the east to get my bearings. And I have met some incredible people both inside and outside the church. Also, the market and salary structure in No. Virginia is such that in just a year's time out of school I have been able to pay off all my debts from school and save a little bit of money. I doubt I would have been able to have accomplished that feat in so little time anywhere else.

If you live equidistant from DC and Richmond, as much of a pain as it is, I'd try the DC singles scene...I mean, if you're stuck here...ya know? They've got a ward in Centreville, Langely, Two Colonial wards, I think one in Woodbridge...all with older singles in the "young professional" category.
It's interesting that you find it so frustrating out here, because I came here from SLC after graduating and found it refreshing to get away from the 18-19 year olds out there. I guess wherever you go, you just have to find your nitch.
