teaching kids chess
We just started with our 7 year old.
Anyone have any experience or thoughts on how to make it fun? Much obliged. |

Speed chess. Pick a time limit (20-30 seconds) and make a rule that all moves have to be made within this limit. Makes things pretty exciting.
Of course, your son would need to get a little more experience before you give that a shot.

There are Chess CD-Roms that feature action and fighting. Be forewarned though that there are versions where the queen is violated.

I like teaching my kids chess. We play every now and then and I give lessons on forks and pins and opening strategy, etc. And they play on yahooligans for practice and fun. I won't let them play yahoo like I play because of the chat function.

Let them win occasionally.
