Default Born into Brothels

Marsupial and I are watching a documentary Born into Brothels. it's about children of sex workers in India. They give the kids cameras to help them document their lives. Very good and well done, but also absolutely heart breaking.

it makes it hard to care about march madness after this.

Tobias: No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but...but it might work for us.

I listened to a Fresh Air (?) interview of the film maker.

Talked about the moral dilemmas inherent. No good solution. You could take a kid away from their family and raise them in England, but is that better? According to whom?

The ending was depressing. She managed to get several of them put into really good schools. Unfortunately, most of the kids ended up getting pulled out by their parents or dropping out themselves.

Like you said, there's no good solution to the problem.

I think you would like it for all the photography too. Some of the kids were really good.

when I'm in the mood for really depressing non-escapism, I'll give it a look-see.

Yeah, you won't leave feeling uplifted. But it's worth it.

No, this is why March Madness exists - to get away from the ugliness of real life.
