Default Why is he bothering?

Giuliani is putting together a campaign committee for a run at the presidency. As a Republican, he has no hope of ever being nominated. I said this on cougarboard and people jumped all over me, but is there anyone here who really thinks he has a shot at the nomination?

The primaries are all about getting the support of the base (since they are pretty much the only people that participate in the primaries). The Republican base will not go for Giuliani, no matter how great his leadership was after 9/11 (and he did a wonderful job- particularly in contrast to Blanco and Nagin).

Perhaps he is angling for a VP position? That would make some sense, given his immense popularity among the general electorate. He could be handily thumped in the primary but make enough noise to get a VP nod. I still don't think the nominee would pick him as VP (because I don't think the base would want him as VP either).

Thoughts?

He left his secretary for his wife? That bastard!

I agree that he'd have a very tough time getting the nomination because socially, he's too liberal, but I think he could get the nod as a VP from a Repub candidate as a counter-balance if someone like Mrs. Clinton won the Dem nomination in '08.

One of the best finds ever.

Leaving one's secretary for one's wife. I'm sure all Dems are appalled.

That reminds of the old joke about the dyslexic who walks into a bra.

Agree with your analysis. Also, I think that a person whose name ends in a vowel getting elected is less likely than a woman getting elected.

I've regarded Giulanni as my favorite Republican ever since he was not fashionable among Republicans. That must mean he can't be nominated.
