Default The aftershocks of BYU being passed over

I wonder how the President and BOT are digesting this. Not only passed over, but not even being considered. And no enthusiasm from the Big 12.

Do they care?

Do they just chalk this up as another sign of the world rejecting Christ's true church?

It is odd.

The top administrators are so far removed from us, we have no idea what matters to them, what priorities are in place and where the LDS organization is going.

Will they just chalk it up as an us against the world?

It seems Church performance is slipping.

First, the numbers of missionaries is not at an all time high. Proselyting conversions are lower than the historical highs when the Church was much smaller.

The energy seems dissipated right now.

Second, BYU's progress forward seems to have stalled and even slipped. I'm not familiar with schools other than the college of law, but its ranking has dropped from in the twenties to the forties. That's a terrible drop.

Much of this seems to coincide with having a Ute as president in terms of BYU, but the overall energy going forward is gone.

Third, there isn't any obvious effort to progress BYU's image or the force of its athletics. I remember when BYU was in the top twenty in Sears Cup and even occasionally top ten, IIRC. We are no where near that today.

This isn't predicting a complete collapse or demise, but the mission seems stalled and a malaise is setting in.

Listening to Bronco at the media days, it sounds like the BOT is concerned about exposure of football to help spread the unique mission of the university. Which explains why the BYU going independent rumors are picking up steam.

The way Bronco talked, it sounds like they don't really care. BYU will not change its identity for inclusion in a certain club.

Bronco's job is to put ou the best football product possible, given the strengths and limitations of BYU. That hasn't changed at all.

The BOT job is a little more complicated. They have to concern themselves with the place that BYU occupies in the sports world, and larger world.

I'm trying to imagine how BYU going independent would help anything. I can't see that it would.
