The LDS Church and Conscientious Objection
Apr. 6, 1968: Boyd K. Packer disapproves of conscientious objection to the war in Vietnam.
Oct. 21, 1971: Joseph Anderson, Secretary to the First Presidency writes (in his official capacity) that conscientious objectors can teach, partake of the sacrament, hold church offices, and receive temple recommends. Mar. 10, 1991: Thomas S. Monson allows for Mormon conscientious objection of the Persian Gulf War. His comments are reported by the AP and are published in the Deseret News. It's good to know that in some minds there's still room for Anti-Nephi-Lehies in the Church (at least there was as of 1991). Here's to hoping that would-be Captain Moronis don't decide that A-N-L's aren't supporting the cause of freedom.
