Had a good experience with a vendor today...
A year ago I bought a windshield and mounting hardware for my motorcycle. The manufacturer was a company called Memphis Shades, but I bought it from some internet superstore. A couple of weeks ago I took the windshield off and didn't tighten down one of the tightening nuts, and the nut subsequently fell off while I was riding.
I looked on the internet to try and reorder the part, but all I could find was the entire mounting kit for $110. So I emailed the manufacturer, Memphis Shades, and asked how to order the part. They said they would ship me the part. Today I got the part with a note that read: "In the interest of getting you back on the road quickly, we are sending you this part at no charge. However, if you think paying for it is the right thing to do, please make a check payable to ST. JUDE CHILDREN RESEARCH HOSPITAL, and return it to the above address." I have a pretty jaded view of corporate America, so it was refreshing to see that kind of gesture. These guys have a customer for life.
