Default What if the conventions had been reversed?

Hypothetical: supposed that everything the last 2-3 weeks occurred exactly as it has, but in reverse. Say the Republican convention went first with Palin as VP, Obama selects Biden on the next Friday morning and then gives his speech at the styrofoam pillars the following week.

(Yes, I know the Palin/Biden picks would quite possibly have been different in reverse order ... work with me here).

How does that change things? Does McCain get as large a bounce? Does Obama getting the last word dent Palin's popularity?

Obama would have given a different, more moderate convention speech, and picked a red state VP, as he should have all along.

Do you really think it would matter that much? I doubt it. I think his speech would have been different, but I am not surehis pick would have been different. Shouldn't it bother his supporters if they thought his decision of this magnitude would be subject to scheduling?

The only difference is the polling trend would have reversed. McCain's post-convention bounce would have been tempered by Obama's convention bounce, instead of the other way around.

Obama's speech would have been only slightly different, but more effective; except that no one would have cared because all the attention would have been on whose baby Bristol is having and whether Track is addicted to painkillers.

Well, I haven't heard that one. Do you Dems have a supersecret newsletter or something like that?

Daily talking points:

* Lipsticking a pig
* Faith healing for Bidens
* Palin: Witch, or just a Bitch?

Add "Enquiring minds" to the beginning of that and you've identified the Dems' daily dispatch.
