Default calling all lawyers...

how hard is it to look up all state laws affecting production and distribution of methamphetamines. I want all states, when they were passed, etc.

Is this a lexis-nexus type thing? How does one go about figuring this out?

All state searches would require one of those computer searches and could be costly.

Determining passage of laws may be difficult as it's not always easily dictated. It might also be done by regulation, not law.

You're asking for something which could be time consuming, unless the research has already been done. You might contact the AMA or the Psychiatric national organization. They tend to retain allstate type information.

I take it you are suggesting that this might be something that would be difficult to do on my own.

That perhaps I should be looking for a collaborator in the academic legal world?

Try this:

http://www.lawsource.com/also/

Most of the states have statutes on-line and this can direct you to their sites.

Also lexis is usually free to law school types, so find a professor or student and they can search more effeciently for nothing. Good luck

Since I am not interning this summer I have lost my free privilege with Lexis, but come August 17 I can snoop around it for free again.

I've got Westlaw access for the summer...

When you say "all laws affecting production..."

That's kind of a broad search.

Are you looking for penalties?

Problem # 2

Meth isn't usually just lumped in with all other "controlled substances."

There is usually a part of the statute that identifies what a "controlled substance" is and then they just apply the law to anything that fits that definition.

I can find a survey of laws that deal with the regulation of precursors.

Would that help?
