Default IlPad, did you see that O's score today?

A nice beating of the Yankees and a strong start from my former neighbor Jeremy Guthrie. He's almost at .500 now and considering the run support he generally gets that isn't too bad.

I did see that. 13-4 with 17 hits. It was a great all around effort by the team and Guthrie especially. I'm glad the Orioles did the right thing and signed him to a nice deal. He's a former neighbor? I understand that he's just a good guy away from the ball park.

Yeah, that's why I yap about him so much. His dad was my home teacher when I was growing up. Guthrie is a great guy away from the ball park. When I was a YM Pres. years back I had a priest who was drafted by the Dodgers right out of HS and he was trying to decide between signing or going on a mission. Jeremy called him at home and talked to him about having made a similar decision when he got out of HS (turned down a $500,000 deal). He helped convince him that a mission was worth the sacrifice. I thought that was pretty classy of the guy to take the time to do that for a complete stranger.

That's impressive that he would do that. I was never good enough to have had to face that kind of decision.

The more I hear about Guthrie, the more I hope he stays in Baltimore. He'd be good for the franchise.
