those of you who are BYU grads...
do you ever consider sending info to the BYU today magazine, when you get an award or something like that?
I noticed that a guy from my ward was in the back update section merely for switching law firms. I say "merely" because it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Nothing against the guy. Anyway, I got an award where as part of the packet they ask for the contact information of my alma mater so they can send them a news release. Sounds kind of dorky. I think I'll pass. Quote:

Nope... never even crossed my mind to send something in. What's the point?
Do you ever get tired of BYU constantly sending you mail and calling asking for money? I donated a couple of times, now go away already. Leave me alone. A few months ago I finally got tired of it and asked to be put on the "do not call" list. |

Lawyers and sales people (and similar professions) do that for business development. It reminds people they are there and lets them know how to get in touch. Not sure why others would, however.
Btw, I am not a BYU grad, so hope you don't mind that I posted here.

I've never even considered submitting info to BYU, let alone to my old grad school alumni magazines. I suppose that in most cases a spouse would be more likely to submit that sort of info than the actual recipient.
I had a friend who's name I saw listed in the BYU mag for being an area president of some legal organization. He was shocked when I mentioned it at church the following week, reporting to have no idea how it got there. He assumed the organization put it in there, likely as a PR move on their part. He said the organization is simply an excuse to have a get-together in Hawaii once a year with collegues he sees and speaks with exactly once a year. And btw, they are getting smarter with the "Send-more-money" call centers. I rarely get an (801) on the caller ID any longer, but I still get plenty of calls. |

I've only been called about twice in my life.
After talking to me, they put me in the "don't call that freak again" category. It's easdy. All you have to do is rail about Bateman. I also like the "I'm already a donor. I pay tithing. Let me know when they don't use tithing anymore to subsidize the school." |

Someone from Marist called me once about making a donation to my alma mater. I told them that there was no way in hell I was going to give my money to a group of socialists.
They've never bothered me again.
