Muslim polygamy in America

Interesting article from Slate on why Muslims are not be pushing for the legalization of polygamy in the United States.

A couple of interesting tidbits. First, I did not know that hip-hop star Akon was Muslim and a polygamist. Second, the article points out that there may be as many as 20,000 Muslim practicioners of polygamy in the United States.

That would not shock me at all. Growing up in the DC area there were several kids at my highschool from polygamist muslim families, and I don't think Northern Virginia has nearly as many Muslims as some areas.
