The least we can do is come up with a name that sounds legit enough to get off of work...you know like Yom Kippur or Hanuka...are those taken?

Wow, FM, you are the first guy I have ever met that is so exquisitely sensitive about the whole pioneer ancestor thing.

If anything we remember the pioneers TOO INFREQUENTLY. We could learn a thing or two from them.

I'm thrilled to hear how people sacrificed to be part of this church no matter if it was in 1850 or yesterday.

Me too. I just don't think having it delivered by their descendants makes it any more powerful than anybody else telling the same story. In fact, in some cases it detracts from it.

My favorite one is when the speaker (usually a HC speaker) tells an inspiring story about a pioneer ... then at the end of the talk, pauses for dramatic effiect and "reveals" that that was there great-great-grandfather or whatever. As if that makes it more inspiring?

What makes church talks good is not usually so much the content, but the conviction.

Best advice I heard on giving a church talk or a lesson was to study and prepare NOT to find cute little quotes to use but to understand the topic and come to a deeper testimony or conviction of it. Once you do, you will give the talk with power.

Talks with power just make those of us with no power feel bad. So it's not a good idea.
