Isn't Provo-Orem usually high on the Best Places to Live list?

Of course it is. There aren't any homeless people around to spoil the atmosphere.

Or, they've all frozen to death, thus decreasing the surplus population. There was an article in the Deseret News last week showing that Utah was among the last in the states when it came to welfare given by the government to the needy. Clearly, the church is a factor in that, but to think that the money from two meals every month exempts us from our duties to aid the less fortunate is awfully tenuous, don't you think?

This board seems particularly fond of the "gotcha" approach; using the anecdotal evidence of a shortcoming in a community, church or political candidate and trying to milk it beyond all reason. That's a very unbalanced way of viewing things and serves no real constructive purpose, IMO. Last edited by Indy Coug; 07-20-2007 at 04:26 PM. |

What you said in general may be true but I really thought the MW was engaging in a jeremiad and the comment should be understood in that light. Was it over the top? Of course, but it should be understood within the literary genre that MW picked.
