Mike Tyson signed up with PRIDE, but now his cocaine habit is putting that relationship in jeapordy.
If Tyson does well in PRIDE or UFC that will completely discredit MMA athletes. |

The current best heavyweight boxers are not Americans. Hence the view that heavyweight boxing sucks.
Boxing is on the decline because parents aren't steering their kids towards it. Colleges gave up their boxing programs when Muhammed Ali came on the scene. Suddenly with a militant black man at the head, boxing was no longer appropriate for the educated white man. |

And you're correct about how things became different because of Ali. I would have thought that colleges (or at least the students) would have embraced him a bit more based on his views of Vietnam. You know, just like those hippies.

This is not about purses, but it shows PPV buys and how MMA is becoming bigger than boxing
http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/...3240&zoneid=13 Very interesting article.

Mike you are right on one thing, the purses in boxing are still much higher, however these numbers are not completely accurate as the UFC hands down "private" bonuses and the main event fighters get a percentage of PPV buys
MMA News : UFC Last Updated: Jan 5th, 2007 - 17:22:28 UFC News: Payday - Fighter Salaries Disclosed for UFC 66 By Randy Rowles, MMATorch Contributor Jan 3, 2007, 04:55 Email this article Printer friendly page The UFC Junkie has announced the official purse amounts for UFC 66, courtesy of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, as reported to them by the UFC. The following salaries do not include any endorsement money individual fighters may have made for this event, nor do they include any additional fighter bonuses which are often handed down by the UFC in private. In addition to their salaries listed here, the main event fighters, Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz, will also get a bonus based on PPV buys. Winning fighters are in bold, followed by the fighter they defeated. Chuck Liddell made $250,000 ($250,000 base salary / no win bonus). Tito Ortiz made $210,000. Keith Jardine made $14,000 ($7,000 base salary / $7,000 win bonus). Forrest Griffin made $16,000. Jason MacDonald made $10,000 ($5,000 / $5,000). Chris Leben made $7,000. Andrei Arlovski made $145,000 ($90,000 / $55,000) Marcio Cruz made $5,000. Michael Bisping made $24,000 ($12,000 / $12,000). Eric Schafer made $4,000. Thiago Alves made $22,000 ($11,000 / $11,000). Tony DeSouza made $7,000. Gabriel Gonzaga made $18,000 ($9,000 / $9,000). Carmelo Marrero made $5,000. Yushin Okami made $16,000 ($8,000 / $8,000). Rory Singer made $5,000. Christian Wellisch made $6,000 ($3,000 / $3,000). Anthony Perosh made $3,000. TOTAL OF ALL SALARIES = $767,000

BTW, Mirko "CroCop" Filipovic is the baddest mother on the planet IMO. When he knocked out Wanderlei with a kick he split Silva's head open with a nasty gash.

the kick has a big windup. as a fighter, freaking step in and take him down while he's off balance.
