Default Why are there so many Duke apologists in the broadcast sports media?

Gerald Henderson of Duke throws a nasty and obvious intentional punch at a UNC player, (I can't think of his name right now) and the guy looks like his nose is broken, yet the color guy on CBS is claiming that Henderson was just going for the ball, that it wasn't intentional, that it was a poor officiating call to toss Henderson from the game and starts lamenting that now Henderson may have to sit out the first conference tournament game and comments that it hurts Duke.

Boo hoo. It couldn't happen to a more deserving team.

Here's an idea for those in the media that are so in love will Duke: Try some objectivity for a change.

That was clearly a cheap shot, Hansbroughs nose is busted bad, if you watch the replay you can see that Henderson hits him square in the face and never looks for the ball.

Am I just naïve?

It is utterly outside my comprehension that a player could deliberately hurt another guy with the game almost (and for all practical purposes, already) over.

Hansbrough had embarrassed Duke all night 26 points 17 rebounds, UNC was blowing them out, i think frustration got the best of Henderson.

I just saw the punch, and it was pretty bad I thought. Definitely intentional.

I actually had that happen to me once playing intramurals at BYU. Granted I didn't get a broken nose, but I ended up getting thrown out because I went at the guy after I got up from the ground. And my buddy who held me back and then went at the ref for not throwing the other kid out ALSO got thrown out.

Man, I miss intramurals...

You're not naive. You just don't have enough testosterone to understand what happened.

Junkie is right, Hansbrough did whatever he wanted to do to Duke this afternoon and Henderson was tired of being abused Things like this happen, especially when egos aren't just bruised, but squashed.

What happened wasn't pre-mediatated, but it wasn't an accident. Henderson saw his chance to take a shot at the guy that worked him and took it. He's fortunately that others stepped in before Hansbrough could get to him, otherwise, we would have seen a real beating.

After having seen it umpteen times it looks intentional to me, because he changed angles to hit him.

Yep.

I guess we could look at it from the Duke perspective - if UNC had rolled over like it was supposed to, Henderson wouldn't have had to hit Hansbrough.
