Default You could be jailed for not buying health insurance

Somehow, this rubs me wrong.

But that's what happens when you set things up so that no one can be denied for a pre-existing condition.

No insurance and now diagnosed with cancer? Sign up get it paid for!

Car accident and no insurance? Sign up afterward and get it paid for!

Obviously, such a system has problems.

On the flip side, a system that gives no reward for healthy choices is not all that great as well. You eat well, exercise, don't drink or smoke? Too bad, you are lumped in with Mr. Fatty diabetes/smoker/alcoholic.
