Default Interesting article re: pay of professional scouters

Articles like this will not help friends of Scouting drives.

growing up, dave ricks was my stake president - assuming it's the same guy. he was kind of a homer so it doesn't surprise me that he's making a whole bunch of money from scouts and being quoted to justify these salaries.

Yowza. I forwarded this link to my buddy who does our FOS drive. He was stunned.

We don't do FOS drives. We don't sell popcorn. We are one of the LDS troops that have left the reservation.

The FOS drive has always bothered me, and that was when I thought these guys were only raking in a cool $30,000. I would much prefer to just donate to our ward's troop. There is nothing utile about the BSA as far as our local scouting goes. We'd be fine with an online shop to purchase the badges.

I've always greatly disliked the FOS program. Can I say how glad I am not in Utah when the program is going? We basically have someone stand up in PH opening exercises and say whoever wants to donate please come up afterward and get a paper. I think the default is for someone who donated last year to get a paper with their name already on it. Going door to door to every house in the ward boundaries may push me over the edge.

That article is pretty incredible. But I can't say I'm totally surprised. Its like any "non-profit" organization that relies on donations to survive. I would rather not know how much our kid's swim team director is making. Its a good program that has helped my kids greatly in the pool, but i am afraid it would make me quite bitter to find out he is making $2 large like some of the BSA council executives.

Our troop just spent $200 just for BADGES at the local Boy Scout office for our last Court of Honor. I'm thinking about finding a source in China to produce these things for $.01 a piece and selling them over ebay or something.

whatever my entry level professional scouter makes in my district, he doesn't deserve it. I hounded him for six months just to get a receipt.
