You could say about them BEFORE they got popular. They tourned the club scene for a good 8-10 years before they ever were mainstream. Their first mainstream CD's were good stuff too,,,but then...wow their last few efforts have been painfully bad.

They've been touring clubs for a good 10+ years. They're supported by Irish Red Killian's....their music isn't and never has fit the radio sound so thats why they've never been mainstream.

Flogging Molly is pretty cool too. It has sort of an Irish feel to it.

I first heard of them back in the early 90s while I was a missionary up in toronto. Some members of a ward i was in went to see their concert. i didn't think twice about them at the time, but when i got home i really got into their early music. I agree about some of their more recent efforts. No thanks, especially the one recently flooding the car commercials on tv (I can't remember the name - I've tried to repress it from my consciousness. it has a very catchy tune).

Agreed. I caught them in concert twice before they hit the airwaves and became mainstream. In a small venue they are a total blast.

you need to listen to the Pogues

they were the inventors of the Irish trad music/punk rock fusion sound

fm is good, and a fun live band but they pretty much ripped off the pogues and sanitized their sound

the tossers are another good band that has a similar sound to flogging molly

The Pogues are awesome. Shane MacGowan is a great songwriter/lyricist. He doesn't have a great voice, but it fits the band perfectly.
