I decided to expand out from my zip stove after I went on a particularly rainy campout and had nothing to burn in my zip stove.

So in deciding what to get, I had a hard time choosing. I didn't want a canister stove, because I don't want to buy canisters. I want to have a stove I could use in an extended emergency situation (i.e. 2 months) with fuel stored on hand.

And I wanted simmer control and multifuel (so I can use kerosene).

So I decided on the MSR Dragonfly, even though it sounds like a rocket engine.

Another thing that is not so great about the zip stove is heat control. The forge is so efficient that woods burns quickly, and by the time you notice the heat has become too low, your fire is almost out.

I love my zip stove, and won't get rid of it, but I wanted more flexibility.

So now I have

1. Coleman propane single-burner attachment canister stove
2. alcohol stove (homemade--cost me 1$ and only weighs probably one oz.)
3. zip stove
4. MSR Dragonfly

What I would really like now is the Outback Oven, so I can bake with my dragonfly. I do a lot of dutch oven stuff, so this would be right up my alley.

Good choice. The dragonfly is a little heavy for "serious" backpackers but it's a great little stove. I'd even take it on car camping trips to throw on a quick pot of water.

You're building quite the little arsenal of gear... Before long you're going to need a bigger garage.

How is the Dragonfly? I've got an MSR whisperlite shaker white gas stove and hate it. It is so inconsistent when out in the mountains, half the time I get frustrated with it and use a buddies stove instead. However, we can't rule out operator error on this one. I'm fairly new to primer-type stoves.

I recently got a Coleman propane single burner stove and love it. The canisters are a bit heavy and bulky, but it is much more idiot-proof than a gas stove, which is an important consideration for a wannabe like me.

do you have a set of plans you can post for your alcohol stove? A friend of mine did a denatured alcohol stove with his son that turned out really cool. I believe he used a couple of pepsi cans and nothing more. Works great.

I've only used my dragonfly once. It worked. Noisy as hell. What problem did you have with the whisperlite? can't get it started? are you priming it?
