Default NY Times blog piece on FLDS and LDS

http://egan.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/0...=5070&emc=eta1

I apologize if this was posted elsewhere. It's been emailed to me by 2 different friends (non-members both).

No punches pulled in this one:
Quote:
It would have been just another Christian faith had not Smith let his libido lead him into trouble. Before he died at the hands of a mob, he married at least 33 women and girls; the youngest was 14, and was told she had to become Smith’s bedmate or risk eternal damnation.
Smith was fortunate to find a religious cover for his desire. His polygamy “revelation” was put into The Doctrine and Covenants, one of three sacred texts of Mormonism. It’s still there – the word of God. And that’s why, to the people in the compound at Eldorado, the real heretics are in Salt Lake City.

Sorry, he quoted Krakauer. I can't respect anyone that quotes him.

You associate Robin with Krakauer. But the quotation in Steel's post seems to me right on the money. Does it not?

Krakauer and Brodie. I immediately thought of you when I read that article. I know what a fan you are of both.

actually I just skimmed it, and when I saw Krakauer, I knew it was written by an ignoramus.

Krakauer is not a historian. Moreover, he is not honest.

So why would I turn to a dishonest non-historian for my historcal source on Mormonism? Well, I would have to think, I bet if I use the name of a popular writer, it will be more convincing.

SU, STFU, you haven't read any his books.

I've already shown that Brodie was writing a hit-piece. It's clear in her biography written by a non-Mormon.

Btw, it would not have been "just another Christian faith."

When most "Christians" say we are not Christians, they do not reference polygamy. They reference the million other heresies.

Waters, Egan has two Pulitzers in history. Does he qualify as a historian?
