Default The race card

Will McCain pull this out and play it? Just imagine how stirred up this country would be if he started playing clips from Jeremiah Wright. He could run a scare campaign that would make Willie Horton look like kids stuff.

One time, in the early part of our marriage, when we were still trying to sort out this whole coming-from-different-cultures thing, I said or did something that enraged my wife.

I mean, it was a real baddy. Real bad.

"Get out of here, you white devil! Get out!" (And no, it wasn't for leaving the toilet seat up.)

Either my wife is a racist, or she was brought up in a seriously dysfunctional social environment with severe racial problems that formed an undelible imprint on her mind.

If McCain avoids blowing the top off the race issue, I will respect him again. I think the majority of us on this board have no idea how deep & strong the race issue is, and it's better to let time heal, let the harsher aspects dissappate. The natural response from some is that things aren't improving on the AA side, with Jeremiah Wright as a prime example.

In response, I would offer Barack Obama. Things are changing. Bill Cosby & Obama (and many others) are saying the things that need to be said, within the AA community. (Now, if we can keep the KKK away from the last debate...)

I think it's worse that Obama has FAKED approving of Rev. Wright. To me that is worse than actually approving of him. As if by doing so, he could become a "real" black.

This is a kid with a white mother, in a foreign country, then going to a school where he is about the only black kid, and suddenly he is a Baptist preacher in the year 2008. Yeah, right.

LOL. What kind of cough medicine on you on tonight, Mike?

If a paley like me can understand & agree with much of where Wright is coming from, why can't Obama the Chicago transplant? (And I've never had to deal with any of the crap that comes with being black, never been pulled over for DWB, as has my wife.)

Regarding the black experience, Obama seems to simultaneously "get it", but rejects the self-limiting aspects, moving forward.

Your white guilt allows you to understand Rev. Wright? Ok.

Is Rev. Wright as angry as he is made out to be in the media? If so, why is Obama seeking spiritual sustenance there?

I think there is a time for anger. But mostly there are times for not being angry.

I think you vastly overestimate the extent of Barack's faith.

Obama is in a great position. If he loses, it's because the racists voted for McCain.

Guilt, hell - I have to deal with my boys being called niggers, from time to time. Being westerners - hence not so exposed to the "damaged" experience - my kids usually just blow it off or tell the offender to fuck themselves, but the wife... holy crap... her experience growing up makes her think when her kids get called the n-word it's imminent racial armaggedon. The experiences that get related to me don't result in my guilt... I'd call it understanding.

You don't agree with everything your church has done or now does, but you keep going, right? Obama I'm sure gets some spiritual edification without buying the whole package.

This is a really, really, really ironic statement coming from an apostate Mormon who supposedly left because of racism.

And now he defends Obama listening to a racist for many years.
