The new 2009 Opponent
With the recent announcement by Bronco last night that Tulane is no longer an option for 09' and that the opener on the road has been filled here's some thoughts.
We already have 2 BCS teams on the schedule, plus we play Utah State again. According to Bronco's philosophy he wants to have 2 BCS teams on the schedule, an easily winnable game (Utah State), and a mid to top-tier Non-BCS team. Using that as his scheduling template and knowing it's a road game these are my guesses for who it will be. Keep in mind these would all be home and homes that were signed...unless....BYU wants to surprise us and sign a 1 and done with a big program. Also if they've decided not to sign off on the Tulane series...I think a lot of that has to do with the escalating rise in travel expenses. Why go that far to play a non- descript program without a return of a high $ guarantee to offset travel costs? With that in mind I've chosen geographically feasible scenarios. San Jose State....they have home games against Cal-Poly and Utah. They could replace Cal-Poly with BYU. However...they have 2 road games at Stanford and USC....that would be a brutal Non-Conf schedule if they include BYU. Fresno State...the only Non-Conf home game they have scheduled is against UC Davis...they have road games at Wisconsin, Cincinnati and Illinois...I know Pat Hill has take on all comers attitude,,,but that's nuts. But given that he's nuts I wouldn't be surprised to see them replace their I-AA team with BYU. Those are my 2 picks........ Now if they choose a 1 and done which I would be shocked if they did......here's my picks for that: Alabama Michigan And then I came across this while perusing the D-I OOC schedules and had this intriguing thought: http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/f...sas_future.htm They only have 1 OOC game scheduled for next season thus far.....it would be the perfect time to sign a home and home against an SEC team that is currently in a bad slump. Opening the season on the road against them with a return trip to LES in 2011 would be a good deal. Plus with my opinion that our 09' team will be better than this year...opening at a struggling Arkansas program in is a shrewd move where we can start the year off with a bang in SEC country. With the following 2 weeks having Florida State at home and at Arizona State that would be a heck of a way to start the season.

Arkansas > Tulane
I could go for that. Do you really think Arkansas would consider a home & home with BYU?

2009 would be the perfect season to add another BCS team to the schedule.
