I have an older cousin with the same name (my parents claim to have been furious, but who really cares years later?). For a long time, I was little "joe" (not my real name).

Now, I'm "straight joe" and my cousin is "gay joe."

These things have a way of working themselves out.

If you like the name, you should use it. Don't let a cousin get in the way (I once met a woman from Puerto Rico named Lloyda. All 5 of her daughters were named Lloyda - just like George Foreman).

I like Classical names that are still pretty mainstream:

Alexander
Philip
Marcus
Julius

Cassandra (can go by "Sandy," a tremendous Bruce Springsteen tune)
Penelope
Diana

We named our daughter Zola. (my mom calls her Zoe). Fee free to copy and adapt.

Or, you could go for "Seven." (or Soda)

Weird. You would have thought at least one of you would have been named David.

I like old-school names like Harry and Fred. Dick needs to be revived as well.

My Dad's name is Fred. Well everyone calls him Fred, but his full real name is Enfred. It's a Swedish name I guess. With 29 grandchildren he's always joked to the kids to not ever name a kid after him. On the contrary my moms name is Jane and has 3 Grandkids named after her.

My father's name is Robson. Never met another. I was supposed to be junior if it was up to my mother, but my father hates his name so they went with Jason. My dad hates it when people call him Bob. And my mom hates it when people call him Robby. Apparently that was what his girlfriend before my mom called him.

If my son were to name this baby it would be Luke for a boy and Leia for a girl. Other options would include Anakin and Amindala.
