Default Statman posted a link to his house for sale in Illinois

First of all, he has a very nice house, but i looked at the specs and the taxes are 9622 a year!, Thats 800 a month if you have them escrowed. How can anyone afford to buy a house out there. Is it higher in Texas?

My taxes are 1200 a year for a 300k house in Utah.

We rent a small 3 bedroom 1 bath house in Dallas that is not new or nice and our Landlord said that the property tax is $5000/year. For a nice house I wouldn't be surprised at all at 9k. But I agree that it's a huge rip off.

Tobias: No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but...but it might work for us.

Heres the link:

also he just said that they went up 30% this year, so he is paying 1100 a month for a 500k house.

Good gracious. Our whole house payment (PITI) isn't even $1100 a month.

we are in Saratoga Springs, but our address is Lehi.. we are the only subdivision in SS that is a Lehi zip code. Our back yard fence is actually the border between the two cities.

when we bought the house we assumed it was lehi cause of the mailing address. but hey, no complaints, SS taxes are cheaper..

My wife and I have been thinking about buying/building a bigger home. My absolute hatred for property taxes has slowed down the process a bit. Besides that, I'm a cheap bastard. My $700 a year tax bill is bad enough. I can't imagine paying $10,000 per year.
